Why must my OCD always make up the scariest scenarios to torment me with. Some guy was hitting on me on reddit and the convo didn't get far before I just blocked him but now my OCD is like 'he's gonna be mad and DOX YOU/STALK YOU' huh??? how did we get here?? now I wanna compulsively delete my account .. These new meds better kick in fast T-T
I don't think that's just an OCD thing, that's a human thing. Throughout our evolution it was more beneficial for our survival to focus on the negative and prepare for the worst. In modern society, we see and interact with more people in a single day than our ancestors did in their entire lifetimes. Our brains simply were not built for the world that we live in right now. They think that things are threats when in reality that are not. My advice would be to try not to take things too personally. For example, you emphasize that it's YOUR OCD and question why it does things specifically to torment YOU. I totally understand why it feels like that. It's important to keep in mind the universality of things like intrusive thoughts, though. Those of us with OCD just respond to them in a maladaptive way that creates a vicious cycle of obsessions/compulsions. Sometimes it's helpful to visualize OCD as some separate "thing" in your head that is messing with you. But I also think that analogy gets taken a bit too far, and can almost be counterproductive if you take it too literally. Regardless, I know how you feel and I wish you all the best.
If your Pure O or have more of the the obsessive than compulsive part then it makes sense I guess. Is worry a compulsion? My psychiatrist said asking for confirmation that I really had ADHD and OCD was a compulsion of mine. Needing that reassurance and questioning everything is maybe brought on from our minds going to the worst case scenario? Sorry, I am just rambling because right now I am having a moment myself. Can’t get my crap straight.
technically worry is a compulsion, yeah. rumination/repeated intrusive thoughts, planning on what you'd do if your worry came true, etc etc., honestly ANYTHING can be a compulsion if its to try and relieve intrusive thoughts, not even exaggerating. but yeah, reassurance seeking and questioning is one of the biggest compulsions LOL
@Northern_Downpour Well, I have the biggest but didn’t realize that all these years of calling people up and over sharing info then asking their opinion about something I did or was going on was a compulsion from OCD. That I didn’t know I had but didn’t know I had ADHD either so completely mind blowing. Trying this deal my therapist suggested of doing things out of order. My mind thinks something can possible get started or done until something else gets done first. Maybe she called that a coping mechanism I built with undiagnosed ADHD all these years. Can’t recall exactly what she said but it’s a perfectionist deal that’s far from perfect. Because of it, I get caught in this trap of not initiating things as I should and then nothing much gets done. Well so now I have many things going right now because things have backed up and all have all these unfinished tasks and my house is worse than ever. I am on Adderall too which thought that was suppose to help all this. Ughh! Sorry, there I go again rambling. I feel selfish I am redirecting things back to myself when you posted your issue. I do apologize.
@Chickens_Frogs - youre all good <33 sometimes we need to get it out LOL. I get you. honestly adjusting to new diagnosis' can be difficult and I imagine trying to manage both OCD and ADHD cannot be easy at all. and unfortunately OCD is about getting caught in all sorts of traps that in the end get us nowhere. But I think overtime you'll adjust and find your way of doing things. and your Therapist will be there to help you along the way. so dont give up!
When it comes to what happened I don't think you were in the wrong for that at all. I'm sorry that your thoughts jumped right to that and it can definitely be linked to anxiety to what you may be scared of the most. I have that kind of anxiety when using public transportation for long distances, especially on the train. I hate riding the train and my anxiety is always there because I constantly feel like I have to be on guard everywhere I go. It could be a similar thing for you too. I hope your meds work too! I'm starting to think meds may be my ticket through these thoughts, but I'm just afraid of them for no good reason.
I think its definitely an OCD thing constantly feeling like you need to protect yourself. My old therapist told me that OCD thinks its protecting you even if its causing harm. its very similar to that of PTSD. Im honestly the same, public transport is not my jam if im alone. and being afraid of meds is so valid. I'd say do a lot of research before taking them and speak to a psychiatrist. luckily you always get started on a small dose and the effects generally aren't usually anything wild unless youre just intolerant to it, lol. unfortunately for me i will probably be on meds for my OCD most of my lifetime, but hey if it helps, it helps.
@Northern_Downpour While I'm hesitant on taking meds, there's absolutely no judgement or shame from me passed to anyone that's taking meds. If that's something that's needed to help you and be your best self, by all means. I'm happy to hear that meds are helping you, even if you need to take it for a long time. I've been speaking to a psychiatrist about meds and while they make really good points about meds, I'm still preferring to try the natural way of getting better with OCD. But I'm not sure if it's working. OCD can sort of be like a false protector alarm that tries to warn you about a sense of security that doesn't need to be there.

I hate that ocd not only latches onto people/things you love. But I hate how easily triggered it can make you and compare yourself to actual scary/bad people. TikTok has been such a big trigger of mine because I keep seeing crime cases, people harming people/younger ppl, and my most recent trigger someone potentially harming their pet. When I see all these things my brain tries to make connections to my past actions/things I said/ etc to try to find connections to how I’m also bad like them and I should just end it all before I truly end up evil. It scares me I don’t want to be an evil person or bad or worse things. I’m not like those people but my brain says other wise. How do I combat this? I can’t stop thinking about my latest trigger because I feel like it’s an old theme resurfacing and I’m so scared-please advice? Explanations? Why does this disorder exist?
I am very scared . My mind is sick. Someone told me that a bad thing happened to them and I keep thinking about it. I think: what if I wanted that to happen? Is this ocd? I am so scared and disgusted. How can I think like this??
My dumbass OCD is trying to convince me that I was stalking this one dude I had a crush on back when I was 19-20 years old. I was a depressed teen who had never had a real crush on any guy and my brain just latched on to whatever guy had seemed respectable. And of course back then I didn’t know I had OCD so it was probably OCD guilt and OCD infatuation and guilt tied into that infatuation. 😞😞😞 I literally forget that that person exists on the daily basis unless I’m reminded of him but only through HIS friends of whom we have mutual. I don’t care where he is and I don’t think I ever truly cared and my OCD was messing me up with this weird crush I don’t think I ever had control of or even WANTED. My brain just convinced me I should want it because I was the loser girl in high school who never got any good guys 😔
