Social media videos extremely triggering

I’ll be on TikTok/instagram scrolling and suddenly there will be posts like “if he does this he is probably cheating”….”this is a huge red flag and you should leave”…. “No matter how loyal he seems there will always be another girl”….etc. these posts trigger me very badly and lead me to checking memories and my partners past mistakes and I panick when videos talk about stuff my partner or I have done… and the comments are even worse :( it’s always people sharing their stories and saying “not to trust him if he___ blah blah” and it sends me into a spiral of searching if my partner is bad. Are people on TikTok just saying things for attention and scaring people or is it all true?

I’ve experienced this. I had to just put a stop doom scrolling - it was honestly way too overwhelming to consume in my treatment…so many different opinions about so many different things all at once, specifically because of my ROCD. But in general - I don’t think consuming all of those opinions is good anyway. If I were you I’d stay off the app for a bit and make an exposure game plan w your therapist. Consuming that type of content when you’re already triggered/not prepared for the exposure can be so overwhelming

Wanted to second what was made in the comment above! Everyone is an absolute expert on dating (🙄) & for people with OCD, it doesn’t help. If you need to take some time away, that’s okay. I was feeling the same way when I first started ERP, but now watching TikTok dating advice is an exposure of mine. It’s not easy, but so much less triggering. I don’t know what people’s intent in sharing these things are. For some people it is their experience and their truth, and they have all right to share. However, it paints dating in such a negative light at times which makes people expect that it’s just going to be horrible. Also, communication with your partner is important. I haven’t flat out said to the guy I’m getting to know that I have OCD or sharing intrusive thoughts/compulsions, but I explained some symptoms & how my brain works. He’s been very understanding. He was literally willing to wait 12 weeks for me to finish up ERP & get things settled for myself (Things I wasn’t expecting because social media makes paints every man out to be horrible). Don’t go on tiktok

Recently, I had a really bad bout of ROCD, but when my boyfriend came to visit for the first time in a while it settled down a bit because I was happy to see him, and things have been pretty good since then. But this morning I saw a tiktok about a girl complaining about how her boyfriend doesn’t do that many little things, which is a very minor problem I have in my relationship, and everybody in the comments was telling her to leave him. It was extremely triggering, even thought I’m very happy with my boyfriend and he treats me well. I wish I had never watched that tiktok.

Could use advice

Hello, I've used this app before but sometimes avoid to not remind myself that I do have ocd. So acouple of months ago there was an upsetting video that circuled around the internet and I deleted my tiktok and instagram to avoid it. I've been using ig only on other people's phones because it just feels safer. Safe to safe just the description of this particular video left me traumatized and my ocd "flares up" when I have PMS. For me, I'm scared of being on ig because I get scared I'm gonna see or hear about that video or even worse, look up the particular things to "make sure" its deleted off of the internet. I know I would never put myself to witness something so awful, but the idea of me even thinking about it is enough to scare me and makes the simplicity of enjoying ig kinda nerve-wracking and I wonder if anyone on this app understands this feeling and knows ways to use social media in a peaceful way. I would really appreciate advice and thank you a lot to anyone who took the time to read this! Thank you 😊

Question

Is it a compulsion to get rid of social media. I feel extremely triggered by social media, even before I had ocd my boyfriend told me to get off tik tok because it was feeding so much bullshit into my head and making me worry about my relationship because there was so many cheating video things on there… I took myself off Facebook when me and bf broke up months ago, we got back together but social media was one of our biggest problems in our relationship so he still chooses to not have me on there which is fine. But I sorta just don’t even see a point in having it? At the same time tho, I don’t want to go on there also because I get triggered easily by things. Was thinking of if I go back on there one day to just make all new accounts for things, if I choose or want it again one day…
