Just venting maybe someone could explain

I really don’t understand why people freak out if someone thinks they’re gay / lesbian or any lgbt or they think they’re attracted to that person yes I have ocd and I have my own struggles but I genuinely do not understand the afraid I’m attracted to so and so or what if they think this I understand it’s the OCD but why is it the end of the world if someone thinks that is being LGBT+ truly that bad or looked down upon … I hope I don’t come across as rude .. thankyou

I don’t want to speak for anyone, but I like to look at from a wider perspective, which is being seen or thought of as something you’re not. You end up receiving judgment from the world for being something that you don’t even think you are. I’m not sure if that explanation was very good, but sexuality etc. Are often deeply personal aspects of someone’s identity (whether they are LGBTQ+ or not) and so it can be very distressing to be told by yourself or others that you are something you know you aren’t

As a queer person, I don’t usually read the SO themed posts because I find them triggering. I have a lot of religious trauma—being called an abomination will do that to you. 😜 And some folks on here may have some homophobia…and I’m not trying to be rude either. However, I think we can all relate to being overcome by intrusive thoughts/rumination… and I’m sure if they Google things looking for answers, it would be super confusing. I’m sure people have just told them they’re in denial… so unhelpful for those suffering. Anyway, I have a lot of compassion for all of us. We’re doing the best we can. I did appreciate this question though. It made me feel seen. Thanks.

It’s ridiculous how much people discussing HOCD bothers me. I know it’s a form of OCD, which I understand is out of the person’s control. I know mental illness is not a choice. I have OCD, so I get it. I get invasive thoughts about being hetero, so it makes sense that it works the other way too. I know the people who have HOCD aren’t necessarily homophobic. It does kind of make me feel like my sexuality is a worst case scenario, though. I can’t help but think “people are as afraid of being like me, as I am of heart attacks”. Idk. It just almost feels like people are saying “oh no what if I’m gay” “don’t worry, you’re straight. You’re okay because you’re straight” (which I know isn’t the case). It could just be because of the lack of positivity I’ve seen surrounding the queer community lately, though. I’m not trying to call out or invalidate people with HOCD though, I know it’s something that they don’t enjoy, and it’s something they suffer with just as much as I suffer with my OCD. Sorry, just needed to get that off my chest

Why is it scary to be gay? Is it religious? A fear of not knowing who you really are? I am genuinely curious. I feel like this is one of the few types of ocd that I don’t deal with so I don’t really understand it.

hey, i have a question to people with obsessions and intrusive thoughts about sexual orientation. i too have a little tiny amount of worries about being any other sexual orientation than i think i am now, but they dont bother me that much. i see a lot of people here have these thoughts in huge portions. my question is, what is it that makes you afraid of it? i know this could seem like a really rude question, but its asked out of curiosity; does it have to do with internalised homophobia? or is it because your current sexuality is very strong and being anything else would completely change your identity? i just wonder a lot
