Super sensitive to medicines

Has anyone with medicine sensitivities, found a med that works for them? I’ve been on like 4 in the last two months and all of them had unbearable side effects on me. - Lexapro (urges felt real, almost called 911, I thought I was going to harm myself and my dogs, ended up calling a hotline and sobbing for hours every single day) - Buspar (constant panic and crying, literally could not function) - Amitriptyline (worked the best but made me moody and impulsive) - Prozac (felt petrified and frozen half the day) Has anyone found one that works for them?

I have had bad reactions to many medications. I am currently taking Luvox and it has been life changing (in a good way). I started at a VERY low dose and am titrating up due to my previous issues with meds.

@Slicey i also have taken a low dose of Luvox for a few years, and it has balanced me out. none of my symptoms completely stopped on my dosage, but it makes everything feel more manageable. :-)

Had luck with Zoloft (Sertraline). Started on a small dose and worked my way up. Two things to note. Most SSRI or SNRI take 4-6 weeks before you get the full benefits. Not always but most of the time. The side effects also tend to wear off after that time line as you level out and get used to the med. Second thing to note, OCD does not want to go away :). People will become hyper aware of any symptoms or feeling changes and then OCD can use that to make you think “grrrr drugs bad”. Everyone is different though and not all meds work for everyone. Just some things to be aware of.

@I’m Batman My doctor and psychiatrist have tried starting me on the lowest dose possible, but I always seem to have an extreme reaction. I don’t always notice it. It will be my family that notices it or my bf. Once I talk to my doctor or psychiatrist, they tell me the level of side effects I’m experiencing are alarming and I need to get off immediately. Most meds have been put on my allergy list because of it. As you mentioned, I was scared that I was just hyperaware and it was the OCD making me think all these meds are bad but the panic attacks were way too real. The only med that didn’t cause panic attacks was the Amitriptyline, but I had A LOT of anxiety ticks on top of impulsivity that freaked my OCD out because it felt/looked like I was going to act on intrusive thoughts. Honestly, the ami was the only med that cleared my mind. It was just the anger and impulsive nature that was a red flag to everyone around me including my doctor. I was hopeful for Prozac because it helped my sister a lot with her anxiety. Unfortunately, it made my OCD and anxiety constant throughout the day and night when it usually only lasted until like 9pm. That on top of the most random panic attacks was unbearable and my psychiatrist told me I needed to stop the med asap (I’m low risk but the first med I ever tried (Lexapro) made me suicidal, so they’re very weary of my reaction). I’m sorry I know I’m writing quite a bit, I think I’m a bit frustrated with all of this. I hope I find something that works soon. Thank you for your comment!

@isshpra 🫶🏻 Yeah that sucks. Sometimes medicine might not be everyone’s jam. Different meds work for different folks. I know I had to keep adjusting my ADHD meds until I found one that did not aggravate the ocd as bad. I quit the Zoloft after a while due to some sexual side effects. Which sucks cause it helped a lot with the ocd. I just work harder at ERP though and that seems to be working for me now. Good luck in your search.

Looking for insight on OCD/depression medications

(25f) Before I was diagnosed with OCD I tried Lexapro (wasn’t bad but wasn’t great) and Citalopram (partially think it was a part of what caused me to develop severe anxiety that ignited my once not so active OCD.) After diagnosis tried Effexor and didn’t see an improvement. Was on Adderall for a good amount of my life and mentally did good on it, stopped about 2 years ago because the physical side effects started to become more noticeable. Maybe I go back on Adderall? Maybe SSRI’s and I aren’t a great fit? Anyone taking other medications that helped?

Has anyone else had a very bad reaction to Zoloft?

I had a black box side effect and I’ve been on 5 different medications in the past 2 months. I did a gene site test and it said Zoloft was one of my better medications but it was the worst one I could imagine being on. Has anyone had this same experience?

Starting new anxiety meds

Hi everyone, I’m 23 and have been on Zoloft since I was 16. For the past couple months I’ve been having panic attacks more and I’m sick of feeling like a zombie everyday. My boyfriend said I’m very sad and unhappy then when I first met him 2 years ago…. He thinks it’s the medicine. Throughout the years I have upped and lowered my medication, but now, I feel as though it’s not helping. Either it was too much where I didn’t feel emotions at all like very scary stuff or it wasn’t enough to help me. I was given 5mg of Lexapro to try…. I’m scared to take it. All I know is how Zoloft is. I don’t want to go crazy on it, be allergic to it, etc. I feel like I’m going to trip myself out when I take it and not actually feel the difference. I could really use some positive feedback I really just want to be a normal human😭
