Hi, it took me about 4 or 5 different medications to find a combination that works for me. Medication works different for everyone so it’s kind of a trial and error to see what works. I did a DNA type test using saliva with a kit in the mail called GeneSight and my insurance paid for it. It helps determine what meds you might respond well to and it saved me and my doctor some time by going after the recommended medications. Maybe ask your doctor if that’s a choice for you. I’m on Prozac, Wellbutrin, and Gabapentin for OCD and depression. I know how difficult and frustrating trying different meds and none seem to work it is. Try to be patient and give the meds some time to build up. Most takes weeks to start showing benefits and some require higher dosages you have to build up to. If your anxiety is really bad maybe ask your doctor if a low dose age Klonopin could be useful for you in very stressful situations. It helps calm you down and it helped me. Hope this helps!

Medications can definitely help us feel a little better, but they won’t get rid of your OCD/anxiety on their own. If they ever make a pill that does, I’ll be first in line for it! I’m not a doctor, but I do believe it’s important to also do ERP in conjunction with whatever medication you take. If you are able I would highly recommend that you see a psychiatrist at least for an initial medication assessment. They specialize in these types of medications where a physician (general practitioner) doesn't. Also make sure they know OCD, really know OCD- ask a lot of questions.
