Seeking positive experiences and feelings from others on Lexapro for OCD.

In regards to side effects, I've found the high dosage brings on more pronounced side effects. I've personally experienced weight gain, which is very common, tiredness, emotional numbness, brain fog, memory lapse but that might be just because I'm getting older lol. Lack of interest related to "bedroom activities". This can greatly affect a relationship but I have a girlfriend who is very understanding and I was upfront with her in regards to OCD and medication. I find that I sleep alot but that is kind of my escape from the burden of OCD. Again I hope this helps and God bless

I was SO nervous because I have had bad depression from birth control which made me scared to take new meds. I take lexapro and honesty it has completely changed my mental health. I can actually experience peace now. I still struggle with ocd but it’s way for manageable now. I wish you the best! I am thinking of increasing my dose soon but even the lowest dose has helped me

I've been on SSRIs for 21 years now and I started with Prozac, but I can't remember the dosage possibly 25 or 50mg. I didn't care for a specific side effect with Prozac which for me was lower libido. I switched to 50mg of Zoloft about 10-15 years ago, but I've had to steadily increase it because 50mg really didnt do much for me. At 100mg it was mildly better but the real relief didnt occur until the highest dosage 200mg which ive been on for about 10 years. Im not recommending running out and immediately going for the highest dosage because everyone is affected differently. You should always, always, always consult with your physician before taking a new med or upping/lowering your dosage. Ive found out the hard way that you should never decrease your SSRI dosage on your own. Also, it's my understanding that SSRIs should be taken at the same time every day, otherwise they dont have the opportunity to work. I've found with SSRIs that they aren't meant to stop intrusive thoughts or OCD in general but rather they lessen the anxiety/depression associated with the thoughts thus reducing their power over you. Thanks for all your replies. I know they say OCD is “incurable” but that’s because they want to keep us in the loop…. I know of many people who have said it’s BS when we get told there’s no cure and that’s just a way to make people have the mindset of thinking cures don’t exisit. When there’s people out there who genuinely don’t suffer from obsessive thoughts, anxiety or depression anymore after hard work through therapy and/or medication…. It’s different for everyone I guess.
