Hey everyone.
I’m seriously considering taking lexapro. I’m having a hard time right now. But I’m curious if anyone has gotten into recovery without medication. Anyone with depression disorder and ocd. And not need medication?

The approach I've always taken with regards to medication is that it's something to help for the time being but isn't meant to be a permanent dependency, just kind of a crutch to lean on until we learn the skills to manage our OCD and/or depression without it I have OCD, depression, and GAD. I've taken Lexapro to treat OCD and depression but personally it didn't have much of an effect on me. I didn't notice any negative effects but no positive ones either
@bjornkatt Thank you. I’m really on the fence. I don’t want to get worse.
Do whatever is the best decision for you. I do not take any medications. SSRI's increase serotonin, while depleting dopamine. If you're trying to go a more alternative route (without medication) you would probably really benefit from seeing a functional medicine provider, naturpathic doctor or a holistic health coach and seeing what you're deficient in that's causing mental illness. Almost everyone that experiences stress on a daily basis has high levels of cortisol regularly which heavily depletes your vitamin C, your magnesium, and your B vitamins. I take a B complex, MegaMag(but switching to Magtien soon), and 5000MG vitamin C daily. It has helped SO much. Also if you've had any procedures like gallbladder removal or appendix, etc. You def need to see what hormones have been thrown off as a result and if there's you need to take in place of those organs. (For example those without gallbladder should take digestive enzymes to help digest food since they no longer have the gallbladder to secrete bile) ALL of these things play a key role in keeping your chemicals balanced
@BeWell2024 Thank you. I definitely need to see one. I really don’t want to take medication. And I know I’m most likely deficient.
I’ve been doing alright without meds. I just don’t take them because I don’t want to be dependent on it.
@nate01 That’s kind of where I am to. But I’m getting desperate the anxiety seems to be getting worse and worse.
@Anonymous7788 So far what I am finding is helping is forcing myself not to ruminate. First day of doing this my symptoms like cut in half. You really have to sit with the thoughts. In dong this you think the thoughts less.
Hey friends, I hope you all are well. I just wanted to check in and ask people's experiences about being on medication. I have had OCD pretty much my whole life, just got recently diagnosed 4 months ago and my therapist recommended that I get on meds for it so I have a psychiatrist appointment set up. I'm a little apprehensive about getting on them, but I've realized that I do have some sort of chemical imbalance in my brain that plays a part in my OCD and anxiety. I would love to hear anyones experiences or words of encouragement. Thank you, I hope you all are well.
Medication for OCD? Hello all, 19 male here, this seems like a cool community that isn’t nearly as triggering as reddit. I have pretty severe bouts of existential thinking or fear of going crazy ( psychosis ) after some pretty heavy mushroom trips a few years ago, I know logically I should be fine but I do know what it’s like to lose it and it’s scary. Currently I deal with relationship focused OCD, it’s all day from before I even open my eyes. I want things to work out with my girlfriend badly. Also I can come close to a panic attack sometimes which perpetuates everything. Anyway, I mention the fear of going crazy because the way my anxiety/derealization makes me feel is that I’m not mentally stable cause I feel out of it or unreal. I saw that a lot of anxiety and depression medication can cause psychosis and I feel like I could use some help in getting ahead of my OCD because the compulsions are had not to give into when I’m in such distress/not knowing. Plus overall I just feel like I have no idea how I feel about close to anything. Anyone relate about that ?
I just got diagnosed with ocd and she suggested I think about taking lexapro for it. Has anybody tried that and does it help at all?
