TW warning: ZOCD, real events, and animal neglect. I feel like if I'm nice to animals or think about having a pet in the future I'm being a hypocrite, one of the things i saw at 10-12 years old because of my porn addiction and exposure were horrible videos involving animals, and i had a kitten at 9 years old, i didn't know the responsibility of having a pet, yet i loved my cat very much and when we couldn't take it to the vet because we didn't have money, it came back with wounds, bleeding, i cried a lot and i regretted so much having been so inconsiderate and dumb to ask for a cat when we didn't have money or the appropiate place to keep it safe. My parents refused to take him to the vet or a shelter, and one day it ran away from home and never came back. I feel like i'll never be able to interact normally or have a pet without being a hypocrite. I'm horrible
any advice for this? just trying to not seek reassurance. Anything helps!! Hard time moving on Ages 5-12 OK, so as a kid I did go through COCSA from different individuals (I donât really know how many, I can remember one in good detail!), and also had a family member try to do something to me and also was gr0 om online. But anyways, I was a victim, but then I also did it to other kids. I would try to kiss, or ask them to do very grown-up things with me . I had very poor boundaries, was very pushy, and even sometimes manipulative and didnât understand why they didnât want to do it. I thought all friends were to do something sxual. Also fast-forward to middle school , where boys were very touchy with the girls including me⌠and did not know boundaries at all, I was a girl who was like that to some of the boys, but I didnât think of âim going to SAâ, but it was poor boundaries and I was very touchy. Just acting grown like ugh why. Anyways, that being said, I am going to be in my 20âs, and nobody has brought anything to my attention, and I know asking people I think it couldâve happened with if I SA them is not the answer to this OCD episode, but I am honestly feeling bad, shameful, and guilty. Being a victim is one thing, I am just a little upset at myself for putting other people through that. Only thing I asked about this was back in 2021 There was one guy that told me how I was a little touchy sometimes, but thatâs it nothing extreme. If you read this, thank you I just need a little help.
Does anyone else ever feel like this? When you're having a good day without a lot of fear after having multiple days of fear, you start worrying that your good day will be ruined by fear again. It's like anticipatory fear. Anyone else get this? I hate it but I don't know how to make it stop
My mind just starts racing with thoughts all day. I overthink aswell so I just tend to sit in the thoughts and canât escape. I mostly have thoughts that tell me I donât like the things I do like snowboarding or backpacking or if I even if I love my girlfriend. Deep down I know I do but then I start getting worried that the more I think these things the more they come true. Then I have tons and tons of more thoughts throughout the day and it just feels like Iâm constantly having anxiety and constantly battling my brain over things that donât even make sense. Iâm only 17 and this is extremely hard and I feel like Iâm wasting these teenage years. I donât know what to do or where to go. Iâve picked up reading my bible and praying more but the thoughts persist please help.
Lately, my intrusive thoughts have gotten worse (likely because I've been stressed and trying to not think the bad thoughts causes them to happen more). I just cannot figure out a way to not fixate on the bad things I've said in my head. I'm just waiting for the punishment for saying those bad things, which gives me more anxiety and keeps the cycle going. I was wondering if anyone had any tips/success with moving on after having a disturbing thought.
okay so i have had hocd for almost my whole life to a point where i have acted on urges. every time i would be disgusted and anxious because i know thatâs not me. does anyone have any similar experiences or tips? i love my boyfriend now and rocd and hocd just came back with MOUNDS of evidence. itâs heartbreaking. all i want to do is marry my boyfriend and not have these fears!
can anyone give me some insight on this? i was given 20 mg of prozac by my doctor to help me calm down while i wait for a psychiatrist appointment for ocd (i went in for an ekg because i was worried. nothing was wrong) yesterday was the 2nd dose, should i expect anything? i almost feel like it keeps me up at night since i take it around 7 pm, and i already have been sleeping poorly for a week or so.
I don't know what to do anymore, the fear of psychosis and schizophrenia is so bad in so hyper aware of everything I hear and everything I see, I've always had eye floaters now I convince myself that it's really me hallucinating, I've always had tinnitus but now I'm convinced it means I'm going to go crazy soon, I can't sit in quiet because all I'm focusing on is what I'm hearing, and searching for any sounds I can't distinguish, when there's background noise I get so anxious if I think I heard something but im not sure I did or I'm just anxious, I'm terrified I'll start having delusions and sometimes my brain confuses some sounds for other sounds for example say I'm hyper focused and I breathe and my nose makes a whistling sound my mind interprets it as a scream and I freak out thinking I'm hallucinating only to focus closer and realize it's my own breathing, earlier I was so anxious that I couldnt tell if I had an intrusive thought or heard something, I don't know how to make it stop, I've been through this theme before I just forgot how hard it was I'm having a panic attack please help
New to this app. Do members find it helps, I'm worried I will start obsessing over things I hadn't thought about before when I read other people's OCD triggers...
Hi! For context: I was diagnosed with OCD late last October, Iâve had it for my entire life. At the same time I started Sertraline medication. Iâm turning 22 this year, Iâm finally with my long distance partner again and we are starting a new chapter. So safe to say going through a lot of changes, my family and friends are across the world from me. Iâve had so many good things happen to me after my OCD diagnosis (Iâve gone through a lot of trauma so Iâm not used to good things happening to me like this) and Iâm not used to feeling good. Iâm constantly worried that something bad will happen and I cant stop worrying about it, even though there is no use.. Current world events are on my mind as well though Iâve decided to limit my news intake for now and focus on myself. Iâm going through so many big changes right now, my body is getting used to my medication and my frontal lobe is developing so my hormones are just crazy (and I also suffer from PMDD before my periods). I just feel so different every single day and at times it feels like I dont know who I am anymore and itâs extremely strange and my ocd tries to cling onto that and tell me that something is wrong or something is about to go wrong. Does anyone have a similar experience? I feel like Iâm completely alone in this
Sometimes I had some relationship OCD and then I didnât qualify for contamination OCD however I know in relationships partners like to be close and drink out of each others cup. My partner was thirsty and getting very hot and he asked for my drink and I gave it to him he felt better and I am so beyound happy he did! I feel a lot of shame admitting this, he told me I could have my drink back and I said thank you! đ He noticed I didnât drink it because in my mind it says it is contaminated and I felt extremely bad that he noticed so I got a piece of gum to distracte us I then had to spit out the gum because it wasnât a good flavor then my brain told me well⌠( Ms.OCD) said if I donât drink it it will hurt his feelings and then that means I donât like him and then I drink it then I spiraled from there lol đ I am so sorry it wasnât a weird funny story I was wondering if anyone else can relate? I was wondering if there is any advice I can please have? Thank you so much!! Please write down something in the comments if you are struggling because I want to help you all as well!! Thank you!!
Being exposed to taboo p*rn as young as first grade ruined my life and now ocd is making me pay for it. I have so much guilt for being a child/teen and looking at taboo stuff, and it was all fictional or anime or whatever but it was still so so gross. and I didn't realize It because I had been used to it at so young đŤ I think what haunts me most is when I was a kid/young teen (like 12-14ish) and didn't have access to p*rn I'd imagine stuff similar to what I'd seen in the art. I can't even believe I'd imagine scenarios involving kid characters or whatever because it had been so normalized to me and I assumed it was normal since it was fiction. I'm 23 now so it's been a decade since I've done anything like that and I've never had the urge to since but still. I've NEVER been attracted to kids or had any urges or anything ever, even when I was addicted. The thought makes me want to vomit, I'd rather die than associate anything sexual with kids/minors and I think people who groom or assault kids are vile. But I still feel like the fact that I imagined stuff similar to the things I read sometimes when I was young is proof I'm a p*do. I don't think people would believe me if I said I'm not. I just feel like I don't deserve to live or that if I do, I'm living a lie. I know 'I was a kid too' but even when I was 13/14 I read/imagined stuff with characters younger than me because I thought it was normal. I'm so disgusted. I've had this theme for so long I'm starting to wonder if ocd is right. I feel too ashamed to tell my therapist.
Does anyone else experience ocd around the topic of non monogamy and hookup culture and stuff? Im not hating people who are into these things, intact I thinks it great that people have ways of experiencing relationships how they want to and I will always support and advocate for that, but non monogamy and hookup culture is not for me. However because its not for me and I really don't want to partake in any of these things by brain keeps telling me things like: 1. Monogamy is toxic and fake and polyamory is the only real way to have relationships 2. I secretly want non monogamy and casual relationship 3. I'm experiencing these feelings because im a bigot 4. Everyone's involved in non monogamy in some for these days even if its things like open relationships, threesomes etc so monogamy will become rare and you will never have a relationship Those are just some of the thoughts but I have many more. Like I said I'm supportive of people who engage in those things, but I don't want it and I feel as though I can't justify my reasons why I don't want it and that I'm a fake or a bigot. I'm constantly googling "benefits of monogamy" "why monogamy is better" etc to justify to myself why I want what i want. My googling is so obsessive though and I'm up all night doing it and watching videos and things. I can't sleep because of my worries. Everytime I see anything, anywhere relating to non monogamy wheather that be open relationships, polyamory, threesomes etc I feel so sick In my stomach, my anxiety sky rockets and I just want to cry, it's how I am with seeing gay relationship and things with my sexual orientation ocd. (I feel the same when I things about hookups and stuff too). It's like a voice in my head is going "see it's working for these people, you actually want it, your lying if you don't". I have thousands of screenshots of articles and posts that's reassure me about my wants but my ocd always makes be doubt myself. I need some advice on how to deal with it, because im at breaking point and feel like a horrible person. I also want to know if anyone else is dealing with what I'm going through.
This is hard to admit, but Iâve been struggling with intrusive thoughts where the central theme is racism. I donât use racial slurs but my brain worries that I have said something that hurts or offends someone and now I find myself analyzing every social interaction.
I am recently 30 and just went through a very painful breakup after a pregnancy loss. I am horribly obsessing over the fact that my chance of having a family is over. I think about how long itâll take me to heal, meet someone, have a relationship, and then start a family⌠I think Iâll be too old. I already feel too old. I think about how my chance of the only thing Iâve ever truly wanted is completely gone. What if the lost pregnancy was a sign that Iâll never have kids. What if I will never be able to feel the same way. All of the firsts are gone. Iâll never experience those things again. What if my future partner resents me for having those firsts already. All of my friends have kids and I already feel like Iâm behind. I feel guilty that my grandmother wonât get to see her grandkid have a family, I feel guilty that if I do have kids in the future that Iâll end up being an old mom and not be able to keep up. I couldnât tell you the last time I wasnât thinking about how Iâm failing everyone bc of the relationship that ended. I lost a huge part of me and that ended my relationship so what if I have another loss and end up with another partner that canât look at me the same. Is there anyone that can help me see light after going through all of this? Positive words from moms that had kids after 30? I donât know.
Hi everyone :) I'm fighting with false memory/real event ocd right now and I just need somebody to be completely honest with me. Last year i met a new colleague and she's gorgeous. I was feeling a little self conscious about my looks but it wasn't like I couldn't stand her or anything. I tend to always compare my bf to other boyfriends and when she showed me her bf I THINK (i'm not sure) my head went "oh oh what if he's better looking. What if you'd rather have a bf like him than yours? " but also statements and not only "What ifs". I remember liking talking to her because she's a very good listener but she told me that she knew her now boyfriend while she was with her ex still and they met each other again through friends and she broke up with her ex back then because he was kind of toxic. This was a huge trigger for me too. And she's like 4 years younger than me, you could tell by the way she was acting and no offense but i was just not fully vibing with her. Now my head keeps telling me that I didn't want to stay in contact with her because I thought that her bf is better looking than my bf I have to hide my bf WHICH DOESNT MAKE SENSE I LITERALLY SHOWED HER PICTURES OF MY BF. I love my boyfriend so much it make me sick to my stomach to even think about this being true. Am I an as*hole?
I know that at times itâs hard to be thankful for who I am and what I have in life. Would you like to help me think more positively with the top 3 things you love about your life? It can be the people youâre surrounded by, a hobby, a food, animal, plant, TV show, weather, etc.
Hi everyone, Iâm Cayla. Iâm a mom thatâs lived with OCD since childhood, but my breaking point came more recently after having my son. I was consumed by terrifying thoughtsâWhat if I hurt him? What if I did something awful without realizing it? I was so afraid of my own mind that I couldnât be alone with him. The shame and exhaustion were unbearable, and I convinced myself I was broken. In 2024, I finally sought help. ERP therapy at NOCD was one of the hardest things Iâve ever done, but it saved my life. Even now, I have tough days, but I know I donât have to be ruled by OCD. When my 12 year old daughter began showing signs of OCD, I felt overwhelmed with guilt. I never wanted her to go through what I had, but I knew what to do. I told her that I have OCD too and made sure she knew it wasnât her faultâand that she wasnât alone. One of the hardest parts of this journey was trusting someone else with my daughterâs OCD. I knew how vulnerable it feels to share intrusive thoughts, and I wanted her to feel safe. Her NOCD therapist was able to establish trust and genuine empathy from the start, and that relationship gave her the confidence to face ERP head-on. Seeing her build that trust made me certain she was in the right hands. ERP has helped both of us reclaim our lives, and it is beautiful to see my daughter managing her condition and making visible progress. Parenting with OCD while raising a child with OCD isnât talked about enough, but I know so many parents are struggling with these same challenges. If you have questions about managing OCD while parenting, helping your child through ERP, or breaking cycles of guilt, drop them belowâIâd love to share what Iâve learned. Iâll be answering all of the questions I receive in real-time today 4-5pm ET.
Alot happened since christmas and i feel like i not doing well right now. I cant deal with stress and anxiety/panic, i dont know how to respond to those emotions and im being hard on myself again. It makes me angry when i hear "its normal to feel that, accept it" cause in a way i know what it means but i need help about what to do with it cause sitting and accepting what i feel makes me just stay in this dark hole. If i get a panic about something, i start to react to that and when i want to change my reaction it triggers me cause i feel like im trying to change my emotions, but then what to do? Again just staying with how i feel and the reaction will feed it more and more, i know the basic saying that you should do nothing about it, but if you do nothing then you do the same thing you did before and never learn a new way... The reactions are so strong i cant control it and it adds more negative feelings like fear, and if i have to accept them too then i go nowhere... i just accept that i add more fear to my problem... it doesnt make any sense... im struggling with alot of stress and anxiety and worry with physical symptoms and i dont know how to react to them in a way that i wont feed them, or what to do with the negative reactions that comes automatically.
