Anyone got contamination ocd recovery stories? I heard this is the hardest form of OCD to overcome from my doctors and I feel honestly discouraged.
I don't know I stopped feeling numb now to the thoughts and I feel like I'm starting to enjoy them , I don't know who I truly am anymore
I’m o.o Okay. So if y’all have followed my posts, you might know I have this weird form of harm ocd consisting of slurs of any kind. So, I was asleep right. And reminder: I’m on prozac and from what I’ve seen vivid dreams are a side effect I think. So, I’m asleep. But then I remember thinking those thoughts almost intentionally but when I tried to stop them they came out at rapid fire. I woke up from that sleep cycle and figured that that was probably because my intrusive thoughts repeating while I’m sleeping was common for me. Except, this happened again right before waking up. And I was frightened, not by the slur itself, but by this fear that I intentionally thought that. After some rumination I’m almost sure that this was both dreams but I seriously don’t know, and if it turns out it was actually Me thinking that I’m gonna feel fucking terrible. Tl;dr idk if I intentionally thought an intrusive thought and at this point I’m too afraid to ask
Dose anyone else experience POCD? If so what steps did you take to recover before seeking therapy? And will you lose loved ones once you've told them?
It’s been a few months since I’ve been on here and I’m happy to say it’s because I am pretty much pure o, ocd free! This app really did help so much! I want to share the things that helped me get a grip on ocd. I don’t want to use the words “recover or control” because ocd is a part of our brains but it doesn’t mean it has to be a distressing part. I had my first ocd flare up in Nov and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I was crying and panicking almost every night for weeks, looking back I can’t believe I made it through the things I needed to do in life because I was a mess. But now I look at things like atleast I know what it is and how to deal with it when it comes. So here are my tips. 1. Reading about intrusive thoughts and pure o online and in books. I consumed as much knowledge about ocd as I could. 2. Starting erp therapy on my own and with a therapist. Though I do have a therapist to guide me 100% of erp is the work I put in. I would try all the recommendations of erp from accepting the thought, to making myself have the thoughts as practice, resisting compulsions, changing the way I reacted and thought about an intrusive thought, now this isn’t easy... but I did it all the time even when I felt the panic feeling and even when the ocd was strong, even when I didn’t believe it. I faked it until I made it 3. Practice is helpful, it took days of hard work especially in the first few months but that’s what I did, I considered every day, every intrusive thought as practice 4. Once I stopped the compulsions, (luckily mine weren’t very strong and I cut them off quick) I began thinking the thoughts that bothered me, and slowly added more disturbing content into my life (my ocd was harm ocd mainly) 5. I told myself that “yes that bad thought is real” and didn’t try to comfort my intrusive thought or push it away, if ocd said I was crazy and going to be locked in a facility then I agreed, I would say it in my head and sometimes out loud “yup your right ocd I’m crazy” 6. After acceptance and exposure I began working on being kinder to myself, I didn’t think that this step was crucial but it is.... ocd wants us to suffer and in a way it’s like by giving it power I wanted to suffer too, I told myself that ocd is a liar and I don’t want to suffer, it’s ok that I have ocd I accept it but now I must be gentle with myself 7. Learning to always default to these things when an intrusive thought happens, so much so that my brain does it naturally now ...a) hi ocd that’s cool but I’d rather not think about that and I continue doing what I’m doing, this is hard in the beginning but gets easier b) sure ocd I am definitely crazy but again I think I’d rather keep watching this show c) I am okay with the possibility of that happening but now is not the time for me to figure that out d) you are a liar and separate from me but thanks for the interesting thought ...8. Remembering these things: ocd is a liar, a thought isn’t sumthing u control but what u do with it is, if you don’t want to do something you won’t because of your morals and free will, this concept took me awhile to grasp but repetition is key. Almost everyone get intrusive thoughts so you aren’t unique or alone. I’ve learned through the ups and downs of erp how to combat my intrusive thoughts, how to be kinder to myself and how to change the way I think in order to live a better life. I still get an intrusive thought occasionally when I’m sticky but the way I think about the thought is so automatic now and so relaxed because of the work I’ve put in! If you are working towards erp don’t stop, keep going! I feel you, I know it’s hard and exhausting... 11 months ago I thought I was going crazy I was in the worst place of my life flash to today and it’s like I never even had ocd! You can do this I promise xx
I have liked boys all my life but I am fully convinced that I have a crush on a girl I work with. I think of being with her and involving sexual acts and it doesnt bother me and sometimes I like it. I then want to cry because it scares me so much. Sometimes it makes me happy and I dont even recognize myself anymore.
I really need some and advice. I have just discovered that I suffer from POCD and I have yet to seek treatment. This has been eating up for the past two days now. I'm not attracted to children in the slightest bit. And my fiance doesn't know. I'm afraid that he will leave me. I can't tell my parents because they wouldn't understand. I am not a pedophile. But I'm afraid that I might become one. Please help urgently.
I’m angry. Irritated. Whatever. I’m in a day program and yesterday they’re freaking out because I was open about my harm ocd. The dr I saw yesterday in the afternoon that wasn’t my actual doctor talked to me and told them it’s just ocd. Today my actual doctor told me to TELL MY FATHER THE THOUGHTS I GET OF STABBING HIM AND MY MOM IN THEIR SLEEP. Because “I don’t think he’d understand if he heard it from me” ME EITHER. Why the HELL would you give meaning to my thought?! Why would you make me tell him?! There’s no purpose, he’s an idiot! He was like “so you get thoughts of murdering us in our sleep” and said “should I be ready”. And then my dumb self mentioned my pocd while trying to explain ocd to him. ?♀️ He’s “trying” to be better then he used to be but he still pisses me off. I miss my best friend, I used to trust her with this stuff. I hate talking about my dad to anyone else.
I called another ocd specialist office and they did a screening to see if it was actually where I needed to be treated and one of her questions was if I thought the government was after me which I don’t and now idk if my mind is playing a trick on me and just anything that could do with government keeps coming up and now I’m wondering if it’s early schizophrenic symptoms or maybe it’s one of my triggers
Can someone give me some advice
been having a groinal response for like three days straight. at what point do i see a doctor because im starting to worry that it won't ever go away
I love to day dream, about different scenarios, different people! Just fun stuff. It’s calming, but then ... I’ll turn it into, if I’m day dreaming all the time I’m not fully living my life... and maybe I do this because I’m not really happy with my real life... and I should feel bad because I’m never fully present... which makes me a terrible person - AND THEN WHAT IF- Anyone else have this issue? How do you relax, because it’s exhausting?
Anyone else feel like they are going to get schizophrenia and be a crazy person?
Can’t stop thinking of things from years ago. Like I’ve already gone through it and moved on but now my brain likes the what if questions and doubting my entire memory of the situation and twisting it to something dark. I confess to my mother usually and once I’m on a roll it’s hard to stop. Either I tell her nothing or everything that comes to my mind. I was upset about something from 6 years ago, talked it out with mom and now a new memory popped up and that is the new obsession until I talk it out. Horrible!! I can’t live like this.
Does anyone else feel that OCD can be defeated with mindset adjustment ? It’s pretty clear that I suffer from negative thoughts and have severe self doubt and uncertainty. It’s like I don’t even know my own identity. Over the past few days I’ve become more confident in myself by not caring what others think of me. The effects on my mood were very unusual but much appreciated. It’s almost like we can teach our brains new thought patterns. Anyone feel the same or heard stories of similar value?
Really been struggling with std obsession (I’m sure most people have seen by now) I CANNOT seem to fully accept I’m fine? I had have all negative tests, Then a symptom will appear and I feel like the tests need to be done again, despite doctors and nurses and sexual health helpline workers telling me it’s unnecessary and o need help with anxiety. It feels SO possible that I have an std that will ruin my relationship with the love of my life I’m a constant MESS I look gross because I don’t care about my appearance anymore, my work suffers I’m sad all the time and my irritation levels are through the roof and everything feels trivial until I get this sorted. I just wanna know I’m fine. I’m going on holiday with him next week and I’m TERRIFIED because my last relationship I was immediately abandoned by him when we returned too. I feel like to relax is to be negligent and there’s a risk of passing on an std unless I get tested yet again, despite them all telling me I don’t need to I sometimes can think rationally, but then the thoughts creep in again and I’m back at square one. I feel helpless.
Can somebody hear me out please,? This is such a weird obsession.. But I just wanna talk about it. Please tell me how to deal with this obsession?? Ok so whenever I'm at home I sometimes decide to just walk to the kitchen to grab something. But while my hands are down, near my pockets, I'm afraid that I'm gonna touch my dad or my brothers penis.. Ok this is weird..So now i actually did touch and now I'm really worried. Groinal responses are crazy, my ocd tells me that I liked the feeling of touching a penis and is telling me that I'm gay... Now I'm freaking out.. Please help please tell me how do i make this anxiety subside???
Not sure if this is normal, but all of a sudden, like within days, it seems as though my OCD is completely gone and I’m really confused. Any advice or experience with this would be great. Thanks
Do some of you have the same problem ⁉️ I don’t see myself as very beautiful and boys hardly recognize me and never ask me for a date and my HOCD tells me that „women definitely would ask you for a date“ and that I will never get a boyfriend so I should go with women. I always knew I never had a relationship because of my very (!) low self esteem but now my HOCD tells me that’s because of my HOCD.
Are nights the worst for anyone else? In the past week I’ve only gotten 3 hours tops of sleep per night (and it’s not even good sleep) because I keep on convincing myself I have a serious Illness of some kind. It makes the day time worse as well because I can’t focus on the things I need to do because my body is tired. I feel like if I just have a good nights sleep things will be better mentally but I can’t. It’s the absolute worst.
