I was wondering does anyone else with OCD lie a lot? Even about things that aren't to do with their OCD?
Just burst into tears because I've just saw a photo of my family from today, yet again another family event I didn't attend because I didn't feel strong enough. I know it's my own fault I reacted in the wrong way to my anxiety and intrusive thoughts. They all look so happy without me and I feel like sometimes perhaps they are better of without me anyway ? feel so sad
Have people lost their aesthetic attraction to the opposite sex because of HOCD? How did you manage to recover your attraction ?
Does anyone get the consist idea of being something they don’t want to be. Like they are not necessarily getting intrusive images but can’t shake the thought of them being for example of a pedophile or a killler .. whatever the theme that ocd takes. Like I’m having real trouble letting the thought go - and it’s like inevitable that I am this thing and I need to confess Help please :( really struggling
I just had this interesting thought and I decided to share- sometimes things that are regular every day things such as taking walks or playing a game on an app can be torture for someone with OCD but totally not anything for someone without OCD. Idk why I found this such an interesting thought
Anybody have any tips for seeing a doctor about OCD? (Or particularly real event ocd?) I am technically undiagnosed but I have been seeing a private therapist who confirms that I do have major OCD tendencies but I don’t find her particularly helpful & she isn’t trained to a degree that I would like a therapist to be trained to :( I want to go to my GP and potentially see someone who specialises in OCD but I’m worried that they won’t understand real event OCD..
I was watching videos on YouTube last night some guy discussing ERP it triggered something in me, he said people with ocd shouldn't do it without a therapist, which scared the hell out of me because Im not yet seeing a therapist and I'm on a long waiting list for it. I have an appointment with a psychiatrist this month but after speaking with the crisis team they said its nothing to do with talking therapy and I'm still on the waiting list I feel so confused so frustrated. This is why it's best we don't watch certain videos and read certain things. I only did it because I was feeling confident last night. Now I feel worse than I did before.
Are most of the people here with HOCD also struggling with low self esteem? Like comparing yourself the whole time to others, feeling inferior to others, having no trust in yourself and having many issues with body and your look? I am struggling with low self esteem and every day I do my best to just get more confident but sometimes it feels like HOCD just pushes me back every time I feel better about myself ...
Cant believe how many mental health 'professionals' and the crisis team don't know what harm ocd is. Tell me they've never heard of it. Dismiss everything ive told them. Makes me feel so alone and so stupid. Calling a crisis team is meant to help. But it's made me feel 100x times worse.
‘Real event’ OCD? I don’t see much about this anywhere and was wondering if anyone else suffers with this? When I was younger I had contamination ocd and health anxiety. Now I’m 23 and obsess over something that actually happened. It’s killing me.
Does anyone else screw up doing compulsions and now you’re scared something bad will happen? Like sometimes I mismatch my “safe phrases” in my mind, and they turn into an unfortunate pairing of words that only fuels the OCD to torture me more with “haha, see? you just said it, you meant it.” I’ll give an example for clarity (not a real one, to avoid triggering) Intrusive thought: You like that person Me: No, I did like them but now I- Intrusive thought: You DID??? You know what that means- Me: No! I meant to say I NEVER liked them, and I DON’T now!! It’s the biggest “And I oop-“ moment ever. (If anyone knows that meme lol). Just wondering if anyone else can relate.
I’m having a bit of a freak out. I got triggered by someone I’m friends with today when he looked at me and said “Not to offend you or anything, but you might be gay.” There was not really any context here to figure out why he said it, it was very out of the blue. I’m having a very hard time rationalizing this and coming to terms with this. I’m not looking for reassurance I just need advice based on what I need to do with my mentality right now in order to stop this from causing so much pain.
10% of the reason we suffer is because of thoughts. 90% is because of our reaction to it. To fight OCD, we have to change our beliefs of our fears. OCD takes our worst fear and turns it against us. We need to lose our fear. We need to stop believing that our thoughts are significant or they show our true feelings which cannot be more untrue. Tell yourself it is okay if you harm your love ones because it is not you but your ocd making you do it. Tell yourself it is okay if you feel attracted to your own gender, you will just focus on the opposite sex even if you feel attracted to your own gender. Change your mentality if you want to escape the madness.
Okay so I just posted about this a couple of hours ago, but I just wanted to share my concern about seeing my best friend. My HOCD is focused on that I have a crush on her now. Does anyone know how I can not freak out when I see her in person in like a week and a half?
Hi everyone! I just wanted to share about what’s happening to me recently and see if anyone has any advice on how to cope. I have HOCD and I’ve been fine for about a month, but now I’m worried that I may have a crush on my best friend. We were texting about stuff and then we were talking about body image because we’re both in theatre so “the look” is part of it. She then was saying how I have a sexy body and stuff like that (she’s straight) and it caused me to have a relapse. Now I’m worried that I have a crush on her and I really don’t want to lose her friendship. Does anyone have any advice on how to cope and get through this?
Feel bad for saying this but I wish i had another theme of ocd not harm ocd. One that doesn't make me isolate myself. I'm sorry in advance.
I'm very nervous to post this because I feel like a bad person right now but does anybody else with harm OCD get scared that's if they get annoyed or angry with someone the thoughts will become more real? I hate the noise of people eating, for example, and I know it's something people can't help but I hate the noise and then I get more intrusive thoughts and have to leave the room or put earphones in or sometimes I just cry and can't tell People why because I can't be like you eat too loud so I might hurt you! I'm scared if someone really annoys me or hurts me more seriously that I won't have control. It's really stressing me out. Sorry for the rant.
I keep obsessing that my boyfriend is disappointed in me / annoyed for a situation that happened and I keep asking for reassurance which he keeps providing. I know I shouldn’t ask as the ocd wants that, and it’s going in circles. Does anyone have any advice on what to do to get over the discomfort ? My ocd literally anytime there is an awkward moment or argument gives me the thought see things are ruined you ruined them and now they’ll never ever be the same. But my partner moves on quickly and says it was no big deal. Sitting with the anxiety and doing nothing isn’t working , I keep giving into reassurance seeking....I have tried distract skills like tv , internet , music, but then without fail by the end of the day it’s back on my mind. Ugh ?
